GCC Launches Cyber Seniors Program with the YMCA

March 17, 2022

Greenfield Community College and the Franklin County YMCA are helping to connect older adults in the region with technological assistance through their new program, Cyber Seniors, launching at the end of March.

GCC's Cyber Seniors program will connect older adults with area youth who will aid them in learning more about personal technology such as laptops, tablets and smartphones, through one-on-one and/or group support. The program will be introduced through a screening of the documentary "Cyber Seniors" at Greenfield Garden Cinemas on March 30 at 4:30 p.m., followed by an in-person Cyber Seniors launch event at the Franklin County YMCA on May 7 at 11 a.m.

Both events are free to the public and concessions will be available during the documentary screening.

Those who want to participate in the program at the YMCA are strongly encouraged to RSVP through the program's registration page on GCC's website. Attendees there will learn how to receive ongoing technological assistance through the program. No registration is required for the March 30 documentary screening.

"Cyber Seniors is a global initiative that connects youth with older adults, enhancing intergenerational relationships and helping older adults navigate technology which is not always intuitive for this population. Training, provided by the Cyber Senior program, prepares youth to open up a whole new world for older adults and allows them to gain valuable 21st-century workplace skills. It's truly a win-win." Judy Raper, Associate Dean of Community Engagement at GCC, said.
