GCC Hosts Family Night Nov. 2 for Those Interested in MassReconnect

October 24, 2023

Want to know more about MassReconnect and have fun with your whole family? Then join Greenfield Community College for Family Night on Thursday, Nov. 2!

Family Night at GCC will feature family-friendly activities, including an inflatable gaga ball pit and arts and crafts from the Franklin County YMCA, as well as music, food and games. Those who join can learn more about MassReconnect, free community college for residents 25 and older, meet with staff from Admission, Advising and Student Financial Services and even apply to GCC.

Family Night at GCC will be from 5 to 8 p.m. in GCC's core lobby and though this event is geared toward families, anyone with questions about MassReconnect or attending GCC are encouraged to attend.

Those interested can sign up for email or text reminders at our Family Night website.

"We welcome all who may be interested in beginning or continuing their education with the support of MassReconnect to join us for the Family Night at GCC," President Michelle Schutt said. "There is still plenty of time to enroll for spring!"

GCC's spring semester starts Jan. 24, 2024, and applications are currently being accepted.

MassReconnect is a new state-funded program that provides funds so Mass. residents can attend community college for free in the Commonwealth. To be eligible, students must:

  • Be at least 25 years old
  • Be a Mass. resident for at least 1 year by the start of the semester
  • Have no previously received a degree
  • Enroll in at least six credits per semester in an approved program of study leading to an associate degree or certificate
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress according to the college's requirement
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

"MassReconnect has been an extremely successful program for many of our students already, especially when it's been utilized alongside our many free wraparound services like our laptop lending program, counseling services, food pantry, tutoring and more. We're eager to showcase everything GCC has to offer on Nov. 2," Interim Dean of Enrollment Management Patrick Tanner said.
