Sticky July – wasps
\nin the greenhouse.
\nWe dragged out the vacuum
\nand sucked up
\ntheir hard dark bodies;
\nstuffed a rag in
\nto the nozzle,
\nso they would not crawl back
\nout.<\/p>\n

See them, covered
\nin dust, climbing over each other
\nin darkness.<\/p>\n

I dreamt they escaped
\nwhile we were sleeping and swarmed
\non the children – I woke again
\nand again
\nstanding in the hallway clutching
\nthe blue quilt in my arms,
\nshivering with sweat.<\/p>\n

In the dark, it took
\na long time<\/p>\n

to know which way
\nthe truth lie,
\nand I had to go
\nand touch
\ntheir chests,
\nwait
\nfor the breathy up
\nand down,
\nit was a long
