For over two decades GCC has celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with dance, arts and crafts, education, music and food. This year`s event, Jan. 19 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., will feature MLK Legacy Story Hour for younger children (free books for the first 20!), Freedom Dance from Senegal with Abdou Sarr, a screening of the documentary Eyes on the Prize, a performance by Twice as Smart youth dance troupe and much more!

Time for another GCC fun fact! GCC ran Project TEME (totally enclosed modular environment) for a number of years, in which students would plan, train for and then "go on" a simulated space mission or submarine mission for several days. GCC has been selected as a pilot site for ReUp, a national initiative designed to help people who previously enrolled in college but left without completing a degree or credential return and “cross the finish line.” The benefits of ReUp extend beyond individual students. A wacky and wonderful bit of GCC trivia for your weekend! Did you know that in 1986, someone paid for a star to be named after GCC? The name is "permanently filed" in the International Star Registry`s Swiss vault and copyrighted with the Library of Congress.

What does this mean for the field of astronomy? Not a whole lot, since these names aren`t recognized by the International Astronomical Union, the international non-governmental organization that since 1919 has created the celestial body naming standards used by scientists.

For the non-astronomists among us though, we can feel untroubled about looking up into the night sky and calling the ball of burning gas at Orion RA 5h 8m 41.00s D-06° 5` 0.00" Greenfield Community College.

Since 1982, GCC’s Department of Adventure Education & Outdoor Leadership has hosted an annual Outdoor Industry Job fair. Join us Thursday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.!

Employers from various regional outdoor companies, agencies, camps, guide services and retailers will be on hand and are looking to fill open part-time, seasonal and full-time positions. Join us Thursday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. for a screening of the award-winning documentary Kili Big. The film follows a group of plus-sized women from around the world in their attempt to climb the tallest freestanding mountain on the plant, Mount Kilimanjaro. The film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the director, Ida Joglar.
